Graduate/Junior Software Engineer – Bespoke Design & Manufacturing – Defence & Security
Holt Executive are partnered with a leading design and manufacturing business, an established and expanding specialist with a global footprint. With cutting-edge services and a pioneering product range they service a number of industries and assist in driving innovation. This role will be based on-site in West Sussex, although the business has multiple sites across the United Kingdom.

They currently require a Graduate/Junior Software Engineer – Bespoke Design & Manufacturing – Defence & Security to work on the design and development of embedded software and windows-based user interfaces. Full training and development will be provided to learn, grow and progress within the business.
Key Responsibilities for the Graduate/Junior Software Engineer – Bespoke Design & Manufacturing – Defence & Security:

  • Development of software applications including concept design, requirements definition, detailed design and coding
  • Working with Mechanical/Electrical and Electronics engineers as part of a team to ensure project success
  • Work to the software requirements and issues for a project
  • Develop robust software with particularly attention to fault management, fault reporting and health status of applications.
  • Produce, maintain related supporting documentations (Interface control documentation, input to user manuals, Fault code lists and actions)
  • Work with customers to assist integration, commissioning and problem resolution activities, sometimes on-site.
  • Understand the Customer’s technical needs and concept of operations and feed this into wider project requirements.

Skills/Experience required by the Graduate/Junior Software Engineer – Bespoke Design & Manufacturing – Defence & Security:

  • Strong degree in a related discipline
  • Understanding of embedded software design and appreciation of associated hardware
  • Understanding of developing user interfaces

Embedded software/firmware:

  • Experience of writing C/C++ for embedded applications and 16bit/32bit microcontrollers
  • Communications such as Ethernet, RS422/UART, CAN, SPI etc.
  • Hardware interfacing, GPIO, ADC, DACs etc.
  • Some appreciation of motor control principles and theory

Windows/User interfaces:

  • QT and QT Creator– multiplatform development environment in C++
  • Visual Studio C++ and C#
  • Low latency programming techniques
  • Networking (TCP/UDP)

Security Clearance Requirements:
Due to the nature of the business, you will need to be able to obtain UK Security Clearance as a mandated requirement. Therefore, if successful, you will need to provide proof of identity, employment history and right to work in the UK, along with proof of UK residency for at least five years.
