An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team developing next-generation phased array antenna and optical communication systems for ground and aerospace applications.

This role spans full mechanical system development, from architecture definition through to design, analysis, integration, testing, and support for manufacturing. You will work across complex, high-reliability systems designed for demanding aerospace environments, contributing to both prototype development and production-ready designs.

You will take ownership of the mechanical development lifecycle for advanced antenna systems, ensuring robust design solutions are delivered from early concept through to qualification and deployment. The role requires close collaboration with RF, systems, hardware, and manufacturing engineering teams, as well as external suppliers and test partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical architecture definition, requirements breakdown, and trade-off analysis
  • Design, simulate, and test complex mechanical assemblies and subsystem components
  • Support integration of mechanical systems into larger RF, electrical, and optical platforms
  • Perform mechanical, thermal, and environmental analysis for aerospace-grade systems
  • Develop designs with manufacturability, testability, and reliability in mind
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners and external test facilities
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and technical risk assessments
  • Work closely with systems, RF, hardware, and multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Contribute to both prototype demonstrators and production-intent designs
  • Ensure clear documentation of technical solutions, analysis, and test results

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering within aerospace, space, or high-reliability industries
  • Strong experience in thermal analysis and thermal management techniques
  • Experience in system-level engineering across mechanical, electrical, RF, or optical domains
  • Strong understanding of embedded packaging for harsh or space environments
  • Experience with Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance, certification, and production scaling
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory testing, integration, and assembly
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across full system lifecycles
  • Experience supporting both low- and high-volume manufacturing processes
  • Willingness to travel across Europe and the United States as required

Desirable Skills

  • Solid experience with SolidWorks (including EPDM) and parametric CAD design
  • ANSYS Mechanical, ANSYS Discovery, Icepak
  • Mathcad
  • Electronic thermal management and cooling design
  • Experience designing for harsh or rugged aerospace environments
  • Exposure to Agile configuration management practices
  • Experience working on space or satellite programmes
  • Strong ability to challenge existing approaches and drive engineering improvements

Eligibility

  • Swiss or EU citizenship, or valid Swiss work permit required

What’s on Offer

  • Opportunity to work on advanced satellite communications and optical systems
  • End-to-end ownership of complex mechanical development programmes
  • Exposure to both R&D and production-scale engineering challenges
  • Collaborative, multidisciplinary international engineering environment
  • High-impact work supporting aerospace and communications technologies
