An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced cyber security leader to drive the security architecture of a next-generation satellite communications and space infrastructure programme.
This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for end-to-end ownership of cyber security, lawful intercept, and secure communications architecture across both space and ground segments. The successful candidate will act as the technical authority for security design, ensuring compliance, resilience, and operational security are embedded from programme inception through to commercial deployment.
You will play a key role in shaping secure satellite communications capability across mission operations, core networks, gateway infrastructure, and onboard spacecraft systems, while supporting regulatory and government security clearance activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and implementation of Lawful Intercept infrastructure across gateway and terrestrial network environments
- Define and govern cyber security architecture across mission operations centres, network control systems, core networks, and gateway infrastructure
- Ensure regional data sovereignty and localisation requirements are fully incorporated into network and service architecture
- Lead space-segment security activities including command authentication, anti-spoofing protection, secure uplink/downlink communications, and onboard cryptographic controls
- Support government and regulatory security clearance processes, including responses to technical findings and compliance reviews
- Plan and coordinate red-team exercises, penetration testing, and integrated security audits across the programme
- Act as the primary approval authority for security architecture prior to operational deployment
- Collaborate closely with systems engineering, network, spacecraft, and operations teams to ensure security is embedded throughout the full lifecycle
Essential Skills & Experience
- 12+ years’ experience within telecommunications, satellite communications, cyber security, defence, or critical infrastructure environments
- Proven hands-on experience implementing or managing Lawful Intercept solutions within telecoms or secure communications systems
- Strong understanding of cyber security architecture, secure systems engineering, and network security frameworks
- Experience supporting government-regulated or security-cleared programmes
- Knowledge of secure space-segment communications including authentication, anti-spoofing, and cryptographic protection mechanisms
- Professional certifications such as CISSP, OSCP, CEH, or equivalent preferred
- Strong technical leadership and stakeholder management capability
- Postgraduate qualification in Cyber Security, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related discipline preferred
Desirable Experience
- Experience with satellite communications networks, NTN architectures, or secure defence communications systems
- Knowledge of CCSDS SDLS, NIST, or equivalent secure communications frameworks
- Experience supporting integrated space and ground infrastructure programmes
- Familiarity with secure cloud, virtualised network infrastructure, and 5G core environments
- Experience managing third-party security audits, supplier assurance, or operational security reviews
What’s on Offer
- Opportunity to shape the security architecture of a next-generation satellite communications programme
- Senior technical leadership role with significant programme influence and ownership
- Remote and flexible working arrangements
- Long-term involvement across development, deployment, and operational programme phases
- Collaborative international engineering environment working on advanced space and communications technologies
