We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior OSS Engineer to play a critical role in keeping the network running smoothly. You’ll design, build, and maintain cutting-edge Operational Support Systems that optimise performance, boost efficiency, and ensure a flawless customer experience for our partner located in Quebec, Canada.

Holt Executive are partnered with a leading Global Satellite and Space leader that provides reliable and secure satellite-delivered voice and high-speed data communications solutions to broadcast, telecommunications, corporate and government customers worldwide. Their Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network is revolutionizing global broadband connectivity.

This opportunity offers a hybrid work model with 3 days in the office and occasional travel is anticipated.

Key Responsibilities for the Senior OSS Engineer:

  • Design, develop, implement and enhance Operational Support Systems to monitor and manage Carrier Ethernet and IP customer services and network resources, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with vendors to evaluate and implement new OSS solutions and stay up to date with industry trends.
  • Review and approve design and development solution documents, internal and external test strategies, plans and scripts.
  • Develop and maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of OSS requirements, configurations, processes and procedures.
  • Implement real-time network monitoring solutions to proactively identify and resolve network issues, minimizing downtime.
  • Investigate and resolve complex OSS implementation and network problems, collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain automated scripts and tolls to streamline network operations and improve efficiency.
  • Implement and enforce security best practices to protect network systems and data integrity.
  • Analyse network performance data and provide insights for capacity planning and network optimization.

Key Skills & Experience for the Senior OSS Engineer:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of architecture, design principles, and specifications for standardized and interoperable OSS.
  • Strong knowledge of network management protocols, including NETCONF/RESTCONF, gNMI, TMForum APIs, MEF LSO APIs, CloudEvents, OpenMetrics, Openflow, ONF TAPI, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of MEF Lifecycle Service Orchestration framework.
  • Hands on experience with OSS tools and platforms such as Netcracker Digital OSS, ONAP, Ciena Blue Planet, Amdocs, etc.
  • Hands on experience with Carrier Ethernet technologies, standards, and protocols.
  • Familiarity with TMForum Open Digital Architecture (ODA), Process Framework (eTOM) and Information Framework (SID).
  • Familiarity with Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and/or UML.
  • This role requires making recommendations and decisions which will have significant influence on the network operations and control solution of the network.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP)

  • Experience working with geographically dispersed teams. 
  • Familiarity with automation practices and quality assurance methods. 
  • Proficiency in working with both public and private cloud environments. 
  • Familiarity with CloudOps and FinOps practices. 
  • Familiarity with setting up and managing CI/CD pipelines.

  • Derive requirements for the ground segment.
  • Interface with the external suppliers’ teams acting as a Product Owner or Technical Officer and provide support to the development team during the ground segment development phase.
  • Produce and maintain project documentation to good standard including requirements, verification and validation plan, test procedures, test reports, etc.
  • Perform verification & validation of the systems with other team members.

 Skills and Experience required by the Senior Ground Systems Engineer:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications, or other relevant engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of industry experience in satellite ground systems engineering.
  • Good knowledge of the main components of a ground segment (for example, mission control system, mission planning system).
  • Good knowledge of Requirements Engineering, system integration, verification and validation.
