Spectrum / Regulatory Engineer

For the Spectrum / Regulatory Engineering hire, our partner is looking for a diligent and proactive tactical thinker who can work independently and a part of a team.

Key Responsibilities for the Spectrum / Regulatory Engineer:

  • Participate in national preparations for World Radiocommunication Conferences (WRCs) and ITU-R Working Parties
  • Represent in regulatory committees and working groups on frequency allocation and spectrum sharing matters, for example the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and regional organizations
  • Represent in standardization bodies, such as 3GPP and ETSI
  • Develop positions, strategies and input contributions for meetings
  • Provide technical support on market access and business development activities
  • Advise market development, commercial and engineering teams, as well as senior management, on regulatory opportunities and risks
  • Plan and carry out ITU frequency coordination of networks in various frequency bands, including L-band, S-band, C-band, Ka-band and Q/V-band
  • Prepare strategy for frequency coordination and orbital slot acquisition

 
Key Experience and Qualifications for the Spectrum / Regulatory Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Science, Maths or another related technical discipline and 5+ years of professional relevant experience
  • Knowledge of satellite communications systems (link budgets, general radio theory and basic orbital mechanics), national and international spectrum regulations, policies and spectrum regulatory, registration and coordination processes
  • Knowledge of non-satellite wireless products, services and technologies
  • Experience of working in international regulatory and standardization for a, such as ITU
  • Understanding of policy and regulatory issues in the satellite sector, especially with regard to licensing and market access
  • Knowledge of broadband communications, and radiofrequency spectrum technology
  • Programming and interference analysis skills

They require a Communication System Architect to play a crucial role in developing a revolutionary end-to-end satellite communication system. You’ll collaborate with experts across disciplines to design and define their system’s architecture, ensuring it meets project goals and delivers exceptional service to their customers.
 
Key Responsibilities for the Communication System Architect:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system architecture, system requirements, and network element specifications.
  • Craft key aspects of the system, including communication protocols, resource allocation mechanisms, network entry mechanisms, management systems, and more.
  • Lead and guide junior engineers, fostering their growth and expertise.
  • Document the system architecture comprehensively for optimal performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with the System Integration and Test team for seamless integration of all system elements.
  • Identify and manage technical risks related to the system design and develop mitigation strategies to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and collaborate with external partners for project success.

Key Education & Experience for the Communication System Architect: 

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in satellite system architecture and design, proven years of experience in similar roles.
  • Strong experience in Payload technology.
  • Strong experience in Radio Frequency (RF) engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, orbital mechanics, and space systems.
  • Experience with software-defined satellite communication payloads.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standards.
  • Must be a US or Canadian Citizen.

This opportunity is located out of Bethesda, Maryland and will require regular travel to Canada. Hybrid and remote will be considered.
