They require a Senior Systems Engineer to be responsible for taking the lead on certain aspects of project work as well as mentoring other members of the team. The successful appointee will be a Senior Engineer with hands-on experience working on spacecraft systems, at a level where he/she can come in and start contributing to projects straight away.

Responsibilities for the Senior Systems Engineer:

  • Development of spacecraft mission and system design including requirements derivation and CONOPS definition.
  • Performing mission analysis and modelling of spacecraft missions.
  • Trade-off and control platform systems budgets e.g. mass, power, data, fuel.
  • Production of mission-level test and verification plans.
  • Production of mission-level FMECA, FTA and FDIR.

Skills & Experience required by the Senior Systems Engineer:

  • Right to work in the UK and eligible for a Security Clearance application (Mandatory).
  • Diploma; bachelor or master’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering or another relevant discipline.
  • At least 10+ years of commercial experience in a Systems Engineering role for satellite platform architecture.
  • Knowledge of the systems and project engineering lifecycle from requirements definition through to verification, including experience of leading or planning for project review gates in satellite engineering e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.
  • Experience in mission and systems architecture definition and CONOPS, especially understanding of both space and ground segment interaction.

They require a Senior Flight Dynamics Engineer to be involved in critical missions, involving complex manoeuvres, approaching, and docking satellites and avoiding debris. The appointee will experience a range of orbital environments and scenarios as the company perform not only the standard operational lifecycle but also rendezvous, docking and separation activities. The role will include the design, development, testing and operations of the complete Flight Dynamics suite.

Responsibilities for the Senior Flight Dynamics Engineer:

  • Define flight dynamics requirements.
  • Participate in the design of the Flight Dynamics Systems.
  • Develop algorithms and software for specific FDS modules.
  • Be responsible for SSA processes: conjunction warning assessment, and collision avoidance manoeuvre planning, execution and evaluation.
  • Plan, support the execution of and evaluate the performance of, spacecraft orbital and attitude manoeuvres.
  • Support the design of the Ground Segment Concept of operations.
  • Perform required mission and system analysis studies, preparation of technical notes and attendance at technical meetings.
  • Perform routine and critical real-time operations.
  • Participate in 24/7 shifts (for mission phases) and on-call rotations, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured on a 24/7 basis.

Skills & Experience required by the Senior Flight Dynamics Engineer:

  • Right to work in the UK and eligible for a Security Clearance application (Mandatory).
  • University degree in aeronautics, computer science, software engineering, mathematics or relevant science discipline.
  • 5+ years’ commercial Space flight dynamics experience.
  • Experience in using simulation software MATLAB or similar.
  • Experience with Mission Analysis & requirements definition.

Responsibilities for the Spacecraft Systems Engineer Team Lead – Space Sustainability:

  • Line management of team members. This includes helping resolve blockers to their work, prioritising their work, conducting appraisals and conducting probation reviews.
  • Planning the technical work for the systems team members. Assigning tasks appropriately and effectively taking team member skillsets and abilities in to account
  • Overall responsibility for the technical output of the people being managed
  • Create a plan to address the development needs of the existing team members
  • Support engineering technical work performed by the team including:
    • The development of spacecraft mission and system design including requirements derivation and CONOPS definition.
    • Rapid feasibility studies into different scenarios and architectures
    • Performing mission analysis and modelling of spacecraft missions as well as Trade-off and control platform systems budgets e.g. mass, power, data, fuel.
    • Maintaining the configuration control of systems work and documentation
    • Coordinate with other teams at sub-system and system level to define development and verification plans.
    • Assist with bid work, providing technical solutions and documentation.

Skills required by the Spacecraft Systems Engineer Team Lead – Space Sustainability:

  • Diploma; bachelor or master’s degree in systems engineering, electrical engineering, or another relevant discipline.
  • At least 5 years work experience as a systems engineer for a spacecraft mission
  • Knowledge of the systems and project engineering lifecycle from requirements definition through to verification, including experience of leading or planning for project review gates in satellite engineering
  • Experience in mission and systems architecture definition and CONOPS, especially understanding of both space and ground segment interaction.
  • Good knowledge of a range of subsystems & engineering teams including: GNC (AOCS, ADCS), astrodynamics, C&DH / OBDH, EPS, RCS (propulsion), COM (communications), software, ground segment & operations.

 Key Responsibilities for the Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead:

  • Lead the provision of operational aspects, constraints, requirements and experience in mission development.

  • Identify and resolve key technical and schedule risks in your team’s plans.

Key Skills & Experience for the Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead:

  • University degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of demonstrable space mission industry experience, including real-time operations as part of a flight control team operating a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mission through the complete life cycle.
  • Space and ground segment engineering experience is also beneficial.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of satellite subsystems, in particular AOCS/GNC or OBDH/CDH.
  • Familiarity of the operation of Mission Control systems (preferably SCOS-2000 based), mission planning processes, flight procedure development and automation, monitoring and control, onboard software management, configuration management of operational products and simulator facilities.
  • Knowledge of ‘Functional Avionics’ and the conceptualisation of how to use OBSW and ground systems to fulfil a mission following operational constraints.
  • Experience supporting critical mission phases as Spacecraft Team Lead or similar, providing coordinated, timely and accurate input to the mission operations team.
