Systems Test Engineer (RF/Antenna)

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Systems Test Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge phased array antenna technology for both airborne and land-mobile applications. This role offers the chance to work with highly complex systems that integrate RF subsystems, communications chains, power and control electronics, HW/SW integration, and mechanical structures. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary, international environment with a strong focus on continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement system verification strategies, test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Create and maintain automated test scripts to improve testing processes
  • Execute manual and automated test cases, analyse results, and report issues
  • Collaborate with design teams to reproduce and resolve technical problems
  • Ensure system testing strategies meet technical and customer requirements
  • Document testing phases, defects, and contribute to improving processes
  • Assess system performance under varying conditions, including stress and scalability testing
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Stay up to date with testing tools and methodologies to enhance effectiveness
  • Provide feedback to improve product design, functionality, and performance
  • Participate in review meetings to present test results to project stakeholders

Requirements:

  • MSc in Engineering (Telecommunications, Electronics, Automation, Microtechnology, or related fields)
  • Experience or strong interest in active Antenna, RF, and Digital Systems
  • Previous industry experience, particularly with airborne applications, is highly desirable
  • Swiss or EU (27) citizenship

Beneficial Experience:

  • High-level system test verification, serving as the primary technical point of contact
  • Stakeholder collaboration across internal and external teams
  • Supplier engagement and coordination
  • Experience with space or airborne system testing
  • Knowledge of 5G technologies

  • Proven experience in satellite system architecture and design.
  • Strong experience in Payload technology, and Radio Frequency (RF) engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of satellite communication protocols, orbital mechanics, and space systems. Ideally with experience in software-defined satellite communication payloads.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and space industry standards.
  • Must be a US or Canadian Citizen.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain Reliability Clearance.

Key Responsibilities for the Systems and Software Architect:

  • Take a lead in the design, development, and implementation of very advanced embedded and satellite ground segment software systems.
  • Lead the architecture and design of the management plane, spanning scalable and modular Element Management System (EMS) and Network Management System (NMS) components.
  • Definition and architecture of software solutions across the full stack (embedded modules and board support packages to OS-level integration and system-wide services).
  • Drive and implement advanced testing methodologies, including Test-Driven Development (TDD) and software simulation frameworks.
  • Be a technical leader and mentor to the software teams, supporting with design and code reviews, and ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Support the wider team in the identification, troubleshooting, and resolving of complex software issues.
  • Design and implement scalable networking features (e.g., MPLS).
  • Use modern software tools and practices, including virtualization, containerization, and cloud technologies.

Key Skills & Experience for the Systems and Software Architect:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in software development and testing, with a strong focus on embedded systems and real-time applications.
  • Proven experience as a technical lead, or architect.
  • Proven experience in the design of software with consideration for hardware resource constraints and system-level integration.
  • Strong experience architecting complex systems, including management planes with Element Management System (EMS) and Network Management System (NMS) components.
  • Strong understanding of system-level concepts, including fault management, performance monitoring, configuration management, networking, storage, operating systems, and cybersecurity considerations.
  • Proficiency in modern C++ (C++14/17/20).
  • Experience with Linux operating systems.

Key Responsibilities for the High-Performance Computing Team Leader:

  • Monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting HPC nodes.
  • Managing hardware, software installation, and configuring and optimizing the environment.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve level two issues for users of the software and hardware.
  • Act as second line support for issues escalated by the first line support.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and support of the HPC environment in Linux.
  • Take ownership of capacity, availability and performance of the HPC clusters.
  • Migration of existing nodes.
  • Implementation and management of a system based on Foreman (or similar) to manage patching and oversee cluster management.
  • Implement patches and upgrades to Linux, Slurm, and OpenHPC.
  • Install new servers and storage, build new clusters, configure and manage Linux distributions, hypervisors (KVM) and tooling.
  • Day-to-day operational support.

Key Skills & Experience for the High-Performance Computing Team Leader:

  • Diploma or Degree in a relevant area of study. Computer Science together with demonstrated operational network-related experience is preferred.
  • Experience in HPC tools such as Slurm, OpenHPC, LSF or GridEngine.
  • Experience in the use of KVM or other hypervisors.
  • Knowledge of HPC clusters and use cases.
  • Experience in the installation and operation of Linux platforms in an Enterprise environment (Ubuntu/RedHat).
  • Experience with identity management using Microsoft Identity Manager and Azure AD Connect.
  • Industry certifications such as MCSE, CISSP are desired.

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and be able to obtain a Security Clearance.

  • Collaborate closely with the software architect to provide technical leadership within the team.
  • Support and participate in all aspects of software development including requirements analysis, design, implementation, review, testing and maintenance.
  • Creation of technical documentation for both internal team stakeholders, and wider company stakeholders.

Key Skills & Experience for the Software Developer:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years professional experience within software development/engineering.
  • Experience in C++ (v20 preferred), Golang, SQL, Python, Bash, Java Spring.
  • Experience with Kubernetes and developing Helm charts, Terraform, Packer, Ansible, containerization & secret management (Azure Key Vault, Hashicorp Vault).
  • Experience with Azure Cloud technologies such as Azure fundamentals, Azure Identity and Access Management, Azure Networking.
