FPGA Engineer (Modem) – SATCOM – Abu Dhabi
 
Holt Executive are partnered with a leading Satellite Communications business that offer multi-mission satellite services to more than 150 countries across the globe.
 
They have an immediate requirement for an experienced FPGA Engineer (Modem) – SATCOM to actively take part in the development of the FPGA-based design of the modem product and will implement the modem core algorithm.
 
Key Accountabilities for the FPGA Engineer (Modem) – SATCOM

  1. Work jointly with the algorithm team, product Architect and technology partner to support algorithm development and implementation strategy;
  2. Implement algorithms on selected technology components (FPGA, DSP);
  3. Perform test and integration on relevant test environment;
  4. Contribute to new FPGA/ASIC/DSP technology assessment and testing to support new product developments.

 
Technical Competencies required for the FPGA Engineer (Modem) – SATCOM

  1. Expertise in FPGA design and algorithm implementation in the field of telecommunications
  2. Solid knowledge in digital signal processing and wireless communications
  3. Solid experience in hands-on development with HDL languages (VHDL, Verilog)
  4. Low level/platform programming & debugging tools knowledge
  5. Experience with industry leading solutions (Xilink, Altera, etc..)

 
Experience required for the FPGA Engineer (Modem) – SATCOM
Minimum Qualifications:

  • MSc in Electrical, Electronics, digital signal processing and/or wireless Communication Engineering,
  • English – Berlitz Level 8, IELTS 5.5, TOEFL 550 or equivalent

Minimum Experience:

They are looking for an experienced Customer Support Field Engineer to perform on-site support for Airline Customers/OEMs to ensure customer satisfaction and optimum performance.
 
The successful incumbent will provide service, technical guidance, support and training to airline customers to ensure product performance and reliability objectives are met. They will also act as a mentor and technical resource to lower-level Field Engineers.
 
Key Responsibilities for the Customer Support Field Engineer – Aerospace:

  • Provide technical guidance, formal training, and field assistance to other personnel and airline customers in troubleshooting and resolving system hardware, network, and software issues.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance and support for new equipment installations, enhancements or modifications for hardware, wiring, and software integration and issue resolution.
  • Review mechanical, electrical, and software installation documentation to verify that all specifications are met.
  • Work with training department to conduct operational, line and maintenance training for airline customers.
  • Participate in resolving system operation, maintenance or reliability issues by conducting investigations, collecting data to identify the scope of problems, and participating in the recovery plan as required with other departments. Monitor failure trends and possible quality or reliability problems.
  • Provide a consistent communication path to engineering for problem resolution. Establish a strong inter-departmental Engineering interface and support.
  • Monitors and coordinates engineering solutions and implementation of fixes/solutions.
  • Assists in aircraft delivery and support during flight test and customer flight acceptance.

Knowledge and Skills required by the Customer Support Field Engineer – Aerospace:

  • Linux, Unix, Windows and VxWorks (or embedded operating systems).
  • TCP/IP networks and troubleshooting methods.
  • Thorough understanding of wiring schematics, diagrams and other engineering/aircraft documentation.
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understands Recommended Spares requirements and is able to Review Recommended Spare Parts Lists for Marketing Business Proposals.
  • Capable of identifying complex engineering problems in software and hardware and then working with the appropriate department to produce an effective resolution.

Key Responsibilities of the Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Innovative design skills in Electro-Mechanical mechanisms and assist with creating designs in 3D CAD using SolidWorks software.
  • Work with the team to perform classical engineering analysis on designs including stress, fatigue & vibration using conventional analysis and computer simulation.
  • Produce detail engineering and assembly drawings for manufacturing, perform lab testing for verification and conformance of design outputs to meet the design inputs.
  • Assist with developing engineering reports to support new product designs, failure, investigation and any other formal documentation to support customer requirements.

Professional Experience and Qualifications for the Mechanical Design Engineer:

  • Be innovative with a flair for new concept designs and experience in the design of complex mechanisms and structures for use in harsh environments – preferably in the defence industry.
  • Have proven experience in the design of systems from original concept design, produced from a specification, through to production.
  • The ability to analyse the loads on, and design solutions for, items such as gear drives bearings and motors.
  • Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the application of machining, casting, fabrication and moulding techniques.
  • Ability to liaise with customers verbally and in writing in an effective manner, producing reports and participating in formal design reviews.
  • Have experience in the use of SolidWorks CAD system.
