In this dynamic role, as the Telecommunication / SATCOM Service Desk Engineer – Canada you’ll be the first point of contact for Government customers, supporting their critical telecommunications needs 24/7/365. You’ll receive and action customer service requests, troubleshoot service issues, maintain IT systems, as well as test and prepare satellite terminal hardware for field operations and ensure seamless support across different time zones.

Key Responsibilities for the Telecommunication / SATCOM Service Desk Engineer – Canada:

  • Be the first point of contact for direct customers, ensuring their telecommunications needs are met 24/7/365 by working a rotating shift pattern.
  • Diagnose and resolve service issues, from simple inquiries to complex outages, keeping customers informed and satisfied.
  • Provide technical support to field staff, helping them operate and troubleshoot equipment.
  • Maintain and update IT systems and satellite terminal hardware, ensuring smooth operation.
  • Ensure all support Service Level Agreements are met, keeping customers updated on progress.
  • Completion of allocated tasks within the agreed completion schedule.
  • Continuously learn and grow, contributing to the improvement of processes and procedures.

Key Skills & Experience for the Telecommunication / SATCOM Service Desk Engineer – Canada:

  • Hold a Diploma or Degree in IT, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Have experience maintaining and supporting physical and virtual Windows Server systems.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving networking or communications systems incidents.
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation and reports under supervision.
  • Must have a problem-solving approach and be creative under pressure.
  • Must have a sense of urgency and ownership of customer requirements and incidents.
  • Must be self-motivated to achieve required tasks and project completion to the best standard in a busy environment.
  • Must be competent with the use of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Microsoft Visio.
  • Must hold Canadian citizenship and have a suitable background to qualify and maintain a government security clearance for Canada.

 
Desirable Knowledge and Skills for the Telecommunication / SATCOM Service Desk Engineer – Canada: 

  • Certifications in Windows Server and VMWare ESXi
  • Certifications in IP Networking / Cisco networking.
  • Experience in satellite communications, telecommunications and/or IP networks.
  • A working knowledge of Linux and Microsoft operating systems.
  • A working knowledge of network virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • VSAT installation and fault-finding experience.  GVF certification.
  • A working knowledge of trouble ticketing systems and document repositories such as Jira/ServiceNow and Confluence /SharePoint.

Our partner is seeking a highly experienced Field Telecom Technician II to join their growing team in Perth, Australia. This role requires extensive travel, including land, offshore and international locations. 

The Field Telecom Technician II will be responsible for overseeing equipment installation, maintenance, and updates for remote communications systems for the needs of their customers in the Energy, Mining, and Maritime industries.

Key Responsibilities for the Field Telecom Technician II:

  • Install, troubleshoot, and assemble fixed/stabilized GEO/LEO/MEO VSAT systems, L-band systems, LTE systems, and IT/network equipment.
  • Conduct testing and equipment assembly in the workshop as required.
  • Configure, install, and troubleshoot various equipment, including routers, switches, access points, phones, VSAT antennas, modems, and cabling.
  • Use of various testing equipment (spectrum analyzers, DVMs, cable testers, etc).
  • Perform day-to-day preventative maintenance and repair of VSAT hardware.
  • Collaborate with clients and service providers to resolve complex network-related issues.
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technicians on deployed hardware and technology and assist remotely when necessary.
  • Interpret engineering drawings for installation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Partner with engineering and product development teams to review and test new VSAT technology.
  • Provide remote customer support.
  • Prepare and dispatch equipment and hardware to installation sites.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive installation documentation.
  • Conduct safety meetings, risk assessments, and incident reporting/investigations.

Key Skills & Experience Required for the Field Telecom Technician II:

  • Associate degree in IT, Telecommunications, Communications, or 3+ years of relevant work experience. Commensurate military experience may be acceptable.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in the Onshore/Offshore remote communications industry is preferred.
    • Commensurate military qualification with satellite or radio communication equipment.
    • Qualified Electrical/ Instrumentation experience.
  • Preferred proven and demonstrable experience with satellite communications fundamentals, VSAT, antenna RF systems/sub-systems, cable installation and termination.
  • Proficient with iDirect, Newtec and Comtech Satellite Modems, L Band antennas, Stabilized antenna, Cisco routers, switches, and wireless Access Points.
  • Experience preferred with RF Spectrum Analyzers and RF theory.
  • Familiarisation with IP routing, switching, security and VOIP.
  • Onshore and offshore cable installation
  • Ability to offer creative solutions and resourceful critical thinking skills is necessary.
  • In addition to independent qualities, the ability to work well as part of regional/global and virtual teams across multiple geographies/vertical markets.
  • Knowledge of Electrical safety/Awareness of Electrical isolation
  • Knowledge of offshore safety procedures, which may include but are not limited to Permit to Work, Stop the Job, Lone Man Working, and Electrical Isolation.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Our partner is seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist to collaborate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure adherence to regulations and best practices in activities such as the Export Compliance programme for the global business.

Key Responsibilities for the Trade Compliance Specialist:

  • The Trade Compliance Specialist will manage and oversee the UK administration and control of exports for controlled goods, software, and technology. This includes communicating with impacted parties to ensure seamless integration with relevant business processes and transactions.
  • Assist the Compliance team in conducting Know Your Customer (KYC) checks.
  • Ensure all systems and folders used for export monitoring and control are utilized and maintained effectively according to established procedures.
  • Supporting the Senior Export Control Manager on matters of compliance, especially concerning areas listed in greater detail below.
  • Guarantee adherence to all relevant policies and procedures for export control. Maintain proper registration upkeep for all necessary licenses and permits.

  • Conduct annual self-assessments to identify gaps and areas of risk across all areas of involvement and communicate these to the team.
  • Support the Senior Export Control Manager to perform internal export control audits on each main exporting hub, including Norway, The Netherlands, Singapore, and the UK.
  • Support the Senior Export Control Manager and other parts of the organization on specific projects as appropriate.

Key Skills and Experience Required by the Trade Compliance Specialist: 

  • Awareness, knowledge, and experience required to understand and provide guidance in exporting and importing dual-use and defence articles, technology and services under: 
    • International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
    • Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
    • Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
    • UK Export Control Regulations (Military and Dual-Use)
    • EU Export Control Regulations (Dual-Use)
  • Experience in Export Control.
  • Knowledge of Sanctioned Party Screening.
  • Awareness of Anti-corruption & Anti-bribery regulations.
  • Experienced with working with staff at all levels of the organisation.
