Holt Executive are currently partnered with a global leader in Space and Satellite sustainability, a dynamic and rapidly growing technology innovator who are making hugely positive contributions to the growing problem of orbital space debris.

Their missions rely on powerful satellite simulators for validating and preparing the mission operations. They require a Senior Simulation Engineer to be instrumental in the future development of an innovative satellite servicing spacecraft by developing state-of-the-art simulators, with responsibilities across the whole lifecycle from design and development to testing and deployment.

Responsibilities for the Senior Simulation Engineer:

  • Design, development, integration, validation, deployment and ongoing maintenance of spacecraft simulation software 
  • Provide technical expertise as Subject Matter Expert regarding simulator development 
  • Develop and integrate spacecraft simulation software based on client’s requirements  
  • Validate, configure, and deploy simulation software
  • Perform maintenance activities on simulators to ensure highest availability to users 

Experience required by the Senior Simulation Engineer: 

  • University degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or other STEM discipline  
  • Minimum 5+ years of space industry experience in modelling and simulation of digital electronics (processors, memory, FPGA) and interfaces/buses (CANBus, RS422, RS485, SpaceWire) 
  • Minimum 5+ years of industry experience in software development using C/C++ , real-time software development, preferably using modelling and simulation technologies 
  • Experience with SMP2 and SIMULUS Suite and/or other spacecraft simulation frameworks 
  • Experience with an emulation suite, preferably ESOC Emulator Suite or TEMU

They require a Bid Manager/Bid Engineer to focus on Space Situational Awareness activities, developing bids, securing funding, and supporting a number of BD-related areas including proposal production.

This role would suit someone with past experience in bids or sales, ideally in the spacecraft sector or in complex engineering services or products, who wishes to grow responsibility in the space BD area.  

The company offer hybrid working and flexible hours, and you will join a team of highly talented engineers working on cutting edge technology, in their office and cleanroom facility in Oxford.

Responsibilities for the Bid Manager/Bid Engineer:

  • Take responsibility for managing and coordinating entire bids, or parts of bids as required, through the bid process from call opening all the way to bid submission.
  • Control overall production of the bid volumes to ensure delivery on schedule.
  • Control bid finances, working with finance team and external partners.
  • Coordinating partner inputs (scope, finances), with procurement team.
  • Support SSA programmes and studies.

Experience required by the Bid Manager/Bid Engineer:

  • Ability to be SC cleared.
  • 1-4 years’ experience working in bid management in the space industry.
  • An excellent “sales / marketing style” in bid production which can be used to convey the selling points of the business, and to construct competitive but deliverable bids and commercial proposals.
  • Experience of working on bids of various different sizes, from 1 to 2 pager propositions for expressions of interest, to small R&D bids, to larger mission / service proposals of hundreds of pages.

The Senior Director – Satellite Operations will oversee and lead all aspects of the systems and satellite operations from initial deployment through to final decommissioning to ensure the efficient and reliable long-term operation of the constellation. 

Key Responsibilities for the Senior Director – Satellite Operations:

  • Take a lead on the development of the operations concept for the constellation.
  • Oversee and lead the team responsible for refining the system requirements for all elements of the operation.
  • Ensure SOC requirements, schedules and budgets are met through the selection of suppliers.
  • Collaborate with the satellite manufacturer to ensure alignment between satellite operations and the operations development.
  • Oversee development, validation, and implementation of systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Build and train a high-performing Satellite Operations team.
  • Manage the development and deployment schedule, identifying risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure a smooth interface between the Satellite Operation Centre, network operations, landing stations, and overall program requirements.
  • Develop and implement mission operation procedures for all phases of the mission.
  • Implement automation to optimise operational efficiency and reliability.

Key Skills and Experience Required by the Senior Director – Satellite Operations: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or Mathematics.
  • 20+years of experience leading spacecraft operations systems development and on-orbit operations, with a focus on constellation satellite operations.
  • Expertise in constellation operations development and deployment.
  • In-depth knowledge of satellite control systems, flight dynamics, and space situational awareness.
  • Proven leadership, team building, staff development, and mentoring skills.
  • Perform technical and programmatic assessments providing risk assessments, recommendations, and advice to the senior management team.
  • Assess operational plans, anomaly responses and direct critical responses as required.
  • Oversee the satellite operations team including managers and their reports.

Additional Requirements:

  • The successful Senior Director – Satellite Operations must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

  • Ensure bid execution according to bid PA/QA philosophy; conduct bid/no bid reviews and later stage bid reviews.

Essential Skills required by the Bid Manager – Space Sustainability:

  • 2 – 4 years’ experience working in bid management in the space industry, with a preference for those with experience of the full lifecycle of UKSA and ESA bids or sales experience of products or services.
  • Understanding of European Space Agency (ESA) ecosystem, UKSA member state or other member state discussions and negotiations, and geo-return management, in large complex ESA bids.
  • An excellent “sales / marketing style” in bid production which can be used to convey the selling points of the business, and to construct competitive but deliverable bids and commercial proposals.

They require a Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead to be responsible for crafting achievable mission operations plans that consider both how the mission can be run smoothly and the limitations it faces. To achieve this, you’ll work closely with engineers across space and ground systems.

The successful Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead will be required to have a deep understanding of mission operations and the ability to collaborate effectively with the Mission Operations Team.

 Key Responsibilities for the Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead:

  • Lead the provision of operational aspects, constraints, requirements and experience in mission development.
  • Communicate the operational needs to space and ground segment design.
  • Define and plan operational system testing (e.g. SVTs) for execution in collaboration with the Mission Operations Team.
  • Contribute to the development of mission operations concepts, and mission review cycles (PDR, CDR, GSQR, ORR etc), reliably predicting and addressing operational concerns during the mission development process.
  • Define operability requirements and user stories, to support the design of the Space segment.
  • In collaboration with space segment engineers, lead the preparation of spacecraft user manuals and other operations documentation.
  • Provide operations expertise at system, subsystem and unit levels, supporting ongoing mission development, bid proposals and other activities as required.
  • Investigate spacecraft anomalies and participate in the anomaly resolution process.
  • Propose and develop operational solutions to enable a team of engineers to control multiple in-flight spacecraft.
  • Support Mission execution team and team training in preparation for launch.

Team Lead Responsibilities for the Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead:

  • Line management of team members and team coordination, task prioritisation.
  • Support team development, training and recruitment processes.
  • Overall responsibility for the team’s technical output.
  • Identify and resolve key technical and schedule risks in your team’s plans.

Key Skills & Experience for the Mission Operations Preparation Team Lead:

  • University degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of demonstrable space mission industry experience, including real-time operations as part of a flight control team operating a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) mission through the complete life cycle.
  • Space and ground segment engineering experience is also beneficial.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of satellite subsystems, in particular AOCS/GNC or OBDH/CDH.
  • Familiarity of the operation of Mission Control systems (preferably SCOS-2000 based), mission planning processes, flight procedure development and automation, monitoring and control, onboard software management, configuration management of operational products and simulator facilities.
  • Knowledge of ‘Functional Avionics’ and the conceptualisation of how to use OBSW and ground systems to fulfil a mission following operational constraints.
  • Experience supporting critical mission phases as Spacecraft Team Lead or similar, providing coordinated, timely and accurate input to the mission operations team.
