Our partner is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer – Defence / Naval to support all stages across the complete systems engineering lifecycle. The Systems Engineer – Defence/Naval will work covering requirements for capture, system architecture design and verification and validation activities, including using installed systems at the customer site.

Key Responsibilities for the Systems Engineer – Defence / Naval:

  • Heading the specification, architectural design, and verification and validation of projects, including Safety Cases
  • Applying practical skills in design techniques for defence and commercial applications, understanding key process tools and technologies.
  • Producing block diagrams, detailed design drawings and supporting calculations
  • Practical evaluation of new and emerging technologies
  • Working closely with the wider engineering team to manage design changes and solve problems on complex systems.
  • Assist with the development of the Safety Case for Systems.
  • Work with customers to assist integration, commissioning, and problem resolution activities
  • International and Domestic travel will be required

Key Experience required for the Systems Engineer – Defence/Naval:

  • A strong academic background with a degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required
  • Proven technical knowledge of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system design process (including system and sub-system specification) and product validation and verification.
  • Previous experience of Naval or Military Systems is desired
  • Excellent Relationship Management
  • Complex problem solving with the ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation and evidence system-level thinking
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Visio, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • A working knowledge of IP networks would be beneficial

The role requires a close working relationship with the Sourcing and Engineering teams as well as external suppliers to ensure that designs and requirements are clearly defined, specifications and standards are adhered to, and first articles and follow on deliveries meet quality and technical requirements.

Day to day responsibilities for the Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer – Aviation Technology:

  • Support the evaluation of new suppliers and their quality management systems
  • Audit existing supplier processes and quality management systems
  • Establish regular communication with suppliers
  • Visit supplier premises to support product buy-offs or quality investigations
  • Support, monitor and audit new and existing suppliers and first articles to ensure compliance to appropriate standards and requirements
  • Capture and analyse all defects, rework and rejects relating to supplied parts
  • Investigate supplier issues following an 8D root causes corrective action process
  • Verifying implementation and effectiveness of supplier correction actions
  • Provide support to external audit bodies (such as ISO 9001:2015)
  • Ensure adherence to internal process, as well as update and improve those processes.

Knowledge and Skills required by the Supplier Quality Assurance Engineer – Aviation Technology:

  • Working knowledge of the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system standard
  • Strong problem-solving skills and use of Quality tools and methods such as 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, SPC, Pareto, etc.
  • Qualifications & experience in manufacturing, production, quality or engineering disciplines
  • Experience in supplier quality assurance processes and in dealing with suppliers is preferable
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering drawings
  • Able to work away from home to support short duration trips (1 – 5 days typically)

Key requirements for the Quality Engineer – Defence role:

  • Experienced in the management of a QMS within a design and manufacturing environment; preferably within electronic / mechanical defence industry using ISO9001, AQAP2110 QMS standards. (CQI or IRCA member desirable);
  • Qualified to minimum HNC/HND or relevant equivalent (Engineering related discipline is highly desirable);
  • Experienced in “8D” problem solving methodology within an SME and with suppliers, including use of 5-Whys and Ishikawa/Cause and effect diagrams;
  • Able to create and develop clear and concise QMS elements including processes, procedures and work-flows. (MS Visio, JIRA and Confluence experience preferred);

Key Responsibilities of the Project Manager:

  • Ensure new projects are launched with due diligence by creating master schedules, resource demand plans, stage plans and budgets for each stage as delegated.
  • Manage communications (sub-contractors, customers, internal stakeholders). Take responsibility for the organisation and recording of all project management-related meetings.
